Monday – Neutral Rallying Skills
The foundations of the sport - depth, consistency, tempo, directional changes, movement, and building margins into our rally balls. The goal is to always have a purpose when we’re constructing the point in this phase.Tuesday – Defending Skills
Handling tough situations: defending from the corners, using the slice effectively, hitting passing shots, approaching when forced to come in, and dealing with pace.Wednesday – Doubles Day
An opportunity to have a less physically demanding day in the middle of the week where players get to focus on serve, return, volleying, positioning, and teamwork. Doubles is a huge part of all team tennis, particularly at college.Thursday – Attacking Skills
Players get the opportunity to develop the 3 ways to attack: power, precision & time/space. Stepping in on short balls, using width to open up the court, attacking with powerful forehands, drop shots, swing volleys, and finishing at the net.Friday – Serve & Return Focus
An opportunity to really hone the two most important shots in our sport. We’ll keep it fun with lots of serve & return reps and point play—often in team-based formats.Of course, no day is just about one skill. I’m a big believer in a game-based approach—we’ll work on a skill, then put it into a live-play situation where players have to problem-solve and make decisions under pressure. And serve & return won’t just be on Fridays; it’s built into every day.
