TSSI #9 – Low Expectations, High Standards
Read Time: 90 seconds
Today, I'm going to delve into the concept of "Low Expectations, High Standards".
Often, we associate high performance with setting lofty expectations.
But, what if I told you that the secret to achieving greatness lies in combining low expectations with high standards?
I believe that most people fail because they do they do the exact opposite:
They have extremely high-expectations
Their standards are too low
High-expectations will kill everything, including your happiness.
I've watched thousands of people fail to get the best out of themselves.
The biggest challenges they face are:
Staying motivated
Avoiding self-sabotage
Giving their best efforts
Applying this concept will help you overcome these challenges.
Here's how:
Low expectations
"Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed." - Alexander Pope
The biggest reason for unhappiness is unmet expectations.
So, doesn't it make sense that we keep low-expectations.
Acknowledge that progress takes time and allow yourself the space to grow at a steady pace.
Don't expect to win every match or game you play.
Don't expect every sales pitch to go right.
Don't expect every social media post to go viral.
Have low expectations when it comes to short-term outcomes.
On the contrary...
High Standards
"Set high standards and few limitations for yourself." - Anthony J. D'Angelo
While you lower your expectations, never compromise on your standards.
Maintain unwavering integrity and pursue excellence in what you do.
Hold yourself accountable and demand the best from yourself and others.
Just to be clear, these high standards relate to the things that are in your control, such as:
Attitude
Effort
Energy
Respect for others
Focus
Intensity
High standards have nothing to do with outcomes.
Wrapping Up
Embracing low expectations while maintaining high standards fosters continual growth.
Simply:
Have low expectations when it comes to outcomes
Have high standards when it comes to things within your control
This will lead to greater performances and personal growth.
Remember, success is not a destination but a lifelong pursuit.
